THE LAST COWBOYS
In The Last Cowboys, Brooklyn-based photographer Dylan Coulter documents the last surviving ranchers from a three generation lineage, sparked by his own maternal great grandfather. In the summer of 2010, he travelled to Wallowa County in northeast Oregon and, subsequently, directly to his family’s roots.
For more than a week Coulter explored the pull of the iconic American West with his extended family – great aunts and uncles who are well into their senior years. He brilliantly captures not only his family’s proud legacy, but the laborious life of a rancher and the isolation, toughness and unique brand of American pride it embodies.
