HAIR STYLIST (NEW YORK)
Born and raised on the north coast of New Zealand Richard Keogh left the bliss of perfect uncrowded surf breaks for Sydney, Australia. In Sydney, at age fifteen, Keogh started apprenticing at his uncle’s hair salon where he quickly went from helper to hairstylist. By age nineteen he was already working for Vogue with Australian legend, and fellow surfer, Graham Shearer. Luckily for Richard, Sydney had decent surf too, but rather than choose to become a pro surfer Keogh instead decided on his new found love: hair.
Keogh still surfs and kiteboards any chance he can get, and brings the fluid creativity of these demanding sports to the challenges of hairstyling. Having now worked with everyone from Annie Leibowitz to Patrick Demarchelier, Keogh constantly seeks a balance between the surfer’s life and a solid career. When asked about doing hair on a shoot Keogh’s only reply was “styling hair for me is like a baking extravaganza.” We’re not exactly sure what kind of baking he’s referring too…
