Project Description

Born in Belgrade in 1973, acclaimed New York portrait and fashion photographer Nikola Tamindzic established his reputation as Gawker’s house photographer in 2004. Possessing an uncanny ability to disarm both subjects and viewers alike with his alluringly powerful portraits, he seeks to capture the beautiful contradictions of human experience. In the vein of predecessors who have sought to capture the uncanny in the extreme — Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, and Terry Richardson — Nikola’s distinctively surreal photographs portray a world that is beyond our gaze.

Nikola’s work has been profiled in The New York Times, PHOTO (Paris), The British Journal of Photography, and other eminent publications. His clients include, Nylon, Complex, Out, New York magazine, Gourmet, Out,,, Village Voice, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Sonntags Zeitung, Internazionale, and many others.

His first book of portraits is scheduled for release in Spring 2013.
