PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

Here is a step-by-step guide to shooting for Imagista

It’s extremely important that the following guidelines are followed exactly as described here in order for us to keep Imagista running smoothly and effectively. We will not re-size, crop, or re-name files for photographers so please make sure you understand our specs before your shoot and before you submit final images.
If you have any questions regarding these specs please email or call one of our staff members.

Step 1: Before Your Shoot

Please review these guidelines paying particular attention to aspect ratios and be sure to review and follow our social media guidelines for the day of the shoot.
Please make sure you you are following us!

Step 2: Your Story’s DropBox Folder

Imagista will create a DropBox folder for your story as soon as it is greenlit.
DO NOT create your own DropBox folder using your own DropBox account. Use only the story folder that we have created and shared with you.
DO NOT send us files, team credits, fashion credits by email, WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc. Contact one of our team members if you do not have access to your story’s folder and we will send you a link. You do not need the DropBox App or an account to gain access to your story’s folder

Please use your story’s DropBox folder to upload the following:
Your story Jpeg selects (3-4 images per setup). Your final retouched images (after we have made our choices).
*Please do not load Photoshop files, Capture One files or any other file format other than Jpegs for selects.

Story credits (hair, make up, stylist, studio, retoucher, special thanks, etc. along with their Instagram handles) Wardrobe/Fashion Credits (along with their Instagram handles).

The Call sheet and/or Team Credits.

Your story’s mood board, & any other materials from the shoot we may want.

Steps 3 & 4: Shooting Guidelines & Deliverables

In your story’s DropBox folder (that we have created for you) please upload final deliverables as:

We strongly recommend shooting horizontal versions of every set-up (shot) so that we have options for the poster image (web cover) and opening story image which are always horizontal.
For Web:

Please submit 3-4 selects, per set-up, as low-res jpegs. We will note our final selects in the DropBox comments.
Cover Story image: 16 x 9 aspect ratio

Horizontal Images for story images can be either 16×9 or 3 x 2 (which is the default aspect ratio of most DSLR cameras)
Pixel Size: Images should be between 1200 – 1600 pixels at the widest side of the image.

Vertical Images: Aspect Ratio of 4.5 x 6 or 6 x 7 and 72 DPI (*see samples below)

For Print ONLY:
Horizontal Images: High Res TIFF files cropped to aspect ratio of  3X2 unless otherwise discussed.
Vertical Images: High Res TIFF files cropped to aspect ratios of 4.5 x 6 or 6 x 7

*Important: When shooting vertical images make sure you leave enough room on the top of your frame that will allow for cropping without having to crop out what you’d like to see in your frame. (*see sample below).

Note: proper file naming plays a vital role in SEO optimization.

Step 5: Running Order & File Naming

File naming should be as follows:

STYLIST GUIDELINES

Submitting Clothing Credits

Stylists should place credits on a Word or Text doc but (not a PDF file) and upload to that stories’ DropBox folder rather than email. That way all story elements (photos, text, credits, etc. are all in one place).

Each credit needs to appear next to a photo of the outfit. And each credit must include the Instagram name of the designer or brand credited along with the link.
Stylists should not write credits in all UPPER case or in bold unless that’s the way the brand spells it out.

Example of Correct Credits:
Dress by Saint Laurent @YSL  https://www.instagram.com/ysl/
Shirt by Prada @Prada https://www.instagram.com/prada/

Boots by Gucci @Gucci  https://www.instagram.com/gucci/

Example of Incorrect Credit:
DRESS BY SAINT LAURENT (Use of Upper Case, Use of Bold font, and missing Instagram name and link)
