Imagista: Can you tell us a little about how you got into acting?

Diego Tinoco: I first got into acting when I was 16 years old and started training at this wonderful little studio called 321 Acting Studios. There, I performed in a showcase for agents and managers and met my amazing management team, Impact Artists Group. They have been sending me out to auditions ever since for all sorts of projects. Except for Fear Factor… still waiting on that one. And Jersey Shore!

Imagista: You play Cesar Diaz on the Netflix Series On My Block, can you tell me a little bit about this role?

Diego Tinoco: Playing Cesar has been such a joy. Every day I learn something new through his lens of life and from his point of view on the world. Working through his obstacles in the story has even helped me out with problems of my own. I couldn’t have asked for a better first role and I owe it all to the writers and Netflix.

Imagista: What has the experience of being on a Netflix series been like for you?

Diego Tinoco: It’s been super awesome. Everybody over at Netflix is amazing at what they do and I feel like that’s why they are on top of the game right now. They take chances on creative projects like our show, and it really goes to show that they care about opening up the doors for young artists like myself and giving creative opportunities to artists who are truly passionate about their craft.

Imagista: Are you currently working on anything that you want to share with our readers?

Diego Tinoco: I just wrapped a new film which is a remake of a pretty iconic story that has been made several times and I’m excited to see that launch this year. Also working on some designs for clothing, music with Jack Molly, writing, and honestly a whole ton more. I’m 22 years young with all the time and energy in the world so I’m definitely trying to execute properly on all my goals.

Imagista:As a young actor, it must be hard to stay grounded in this industry- how do you stay both focused on grounded on a day to day?

My secret to staying focused and grounded is to always stay hungry for the dream and to keep pushing every single day. Keep getting better, keep learning, keep growing every day in every way. And just being better than I was yesterday. I recommend everybody else does the same too! It’s helpful.

Imagista: What are you doing when you are not working?

When I’m not on set working I’m in acting class working on my craft, working on music with my brother, spending time with my family friends and loved ones, watching classic cinema with my father, taking my parents out to a trip to get lunch on the beach and just enjoying life.

Imagista: What do you feel are the pros and cons of social media within your industry?

The Pros: I would have to say staying connected to the fans, sharing your art, sharing positive messages, and seeing valuable content.

The Cons: Having a constant overload of information and trying to consume it all. It can get distracting and pull you from the stuff that actually matters… like reality. But then again, some people live for social media. I respect that. Do what makes you happy. All I can say is use social media, don’t let social media use you.
